Amy Jewell, director of product innovation at The Key, discusses the launch of AI Playground, including why The Key has developed a generative-AI tool and how it’s already helping school leaders.
What is The Key’s AI Playground?
AI Playground is a safe place to use 2 new generative-AIs, from a brand that school leaders' trust. You’ll find 2 features: KeyGPT and AI Wizards. Both help you to complete tasks on your to-do list, at pace! It’s currently a beta site, while we’re learning what you want to use generative-AI for, and how to make it work harder for you.
What makes AI playground unique is that it uses the latest generation of large language models (LLMs), as well as drawing from The Key’s library of content. In addition to configuring our LLM, we use information about you and your school, e.g. your role and your school's location and phase, to give you more relevant answers.
What’s the difference between KeyGPT and the AI Wizards?
KeyGPT is a customised version of ChatGPT, designed specifically for school leaders. It can help with almost any task that lands on your desk, as well as with brainstorming, exploring new ideas or seeking advice in certain situations.
The AI Wizards help with specific tasks, like creating bespoke letters or job adverts and interview questions.
How is AI Playground different from other AI tools?
You get better and more complete answers from KeyGPT. We’re using the very latest AI models prompting the AI to give more targeted, high-value responses, in useful formats. We know that the quality of response is greatly improved with more detailed prompts to LLMs. So, each time you ask KeyGPT a question, we enrich the question with information about your role and school.
Our AI Wizards draw on content from The Key, to give you the most valuable responses in formats you recognise. We’ve also made sure that KeyGPT only answers questions about school leadership and it won’t spit out offensive or abusive information.
Why has The Key decided to do this now?
The Key has been working on generative-AI for over 18 months. We believe this new technology, in the right hands, can be transformative for busy school leaders who need to make great decisions quickly, every single day.
We’ve decided to launch AI Playground now, because the quality of generative-AI is improving rapidly. We’re increasingly confident that the responses it can generate will help our members make use of a generative-AI, from a brand they can trust.
Who’s been working on this launch?
As director of product innovation, I’m leading our AI team. I previously led the content team at The Key to understand the problems schools need support with, and how to create great content to meet their needs. Sarah Bull is our content designer, with 5 years’ experience in our content team and trained in how to use generative-AI in a content business. We also have 2 software engineers, Josh and Owen.
How do you see it helping The Key’s members?
Right now, AI Playground is helping The Key’s members generate detailed, personalised responses to their specific questions in seconds and our users are coming back time and time again! We’re learning lots about how our schools want to use generative-AI to make their jobs easier.
We believe KeyGPT can support every single school leader in the country, no matter the task at hand.
